Artist Statement

Inspired by Persian storytelling traditions, my work examines the role of personal and collective narratives in shaping history. For centuries, oral histories, poetry, and visual storytelling have preserved cultural identity and collective memory. Drawing from both personal experiences and folklore, I use collage as a process of storytelling within my practice, where each fragment functions as a word in a larger narrative, speaking to the complexities of memory and identity.

Collage, with its fragmented yet cohesive nature, mirrors how stories unfold—sometimes directly, at other times through erasure, distortion, or reinterpretation. This medium allows me to incorporate materials like fabric and layer them to create spaces where past and present converge. Textiles, as objects we wear, live with, and pass down, absorb the traces of our lives—carrying histories of tradition, resilience, and transformation. Through stitching, layering, and repurposing fabric in my collages, I tap into these embedded narratives, transforming materials into vessels of memory. Salvaged from everyday life, my materials reinforce the ever-evolving nature of storytelling—shaped by those who tell it, those who listen, and those who carry it forward.
